Want unlocked, unsubsidised handsets? Go to Belgium!

Started by Ewan · 11 months ago

All contract handsets on Vodafone UK are now sold unlocked. If you've got an older contract one, you can request a NUC for free. If it's PAYT it needs to be older than 12 months for a free NUC, otherwise it's £19.99.

  • Not that our man Terence tell lies but I can verify this, it rocks my socks and makes me a very happy VF customer indeed...
  • So how much is a PAYG iPhone 3G in Belgium then ? And when will they be sold online ready to ship to us in the UK via some grey import site - in fact i'd be pretty sure this is already being done... got the link ;-)

    Cheers,
    Steve.
  • Problem is in territories where it was a legal requirement not to operator-lock phones IPhones have been geographically locked (using a less frequently used lock setting) to only operators in that country... so in theory a Belgian iPhone wouldn't be any good in the UK anyway unless jailbroken and unlocked via the usual hack approach.
  • Ahhh... I think that's what was being communicated. I've since read that this isn't actually the case, and that Mobistar have even removed that reference from their website.

It must have been to discourage iPhone tourists that had no plan to use their network :-)
