Private: Carphone Warehouse and the iPhone 3G

While we’ve heard multiple horror stories of O2 cocking up web pre-orders, I’ve not heard a peep from anyone ordering their iPhone 3G from Carphone Warehouse’s website. In fact, it claims that both the 8 and 16GB models are still in stock for new contracts (pop back on the 11th for upgrades, apparently).

  • The manager at my local store said they had "loads" in the warehouse but only a handful in stock for tomorrow.
    Tried preordering again this afternoon and my order was canceled for security reasons again!

    Going to have to brave it at the store in the morning and hope that I'm early enough. Oh, and that they can actually sell me one without some sort of security alert being triggered! Either way, I'l be Qik-ing from outside the store early tomorrow...
  • Interesting, does it give you any clues as to what triggered the security alert?
  • It just says:
    "Thank you for ordering with www.carphonewarehouse.com.

    We have now processed it through our secure systems, but are unable to despatch the item to you for security reasons. This order has now been cancelled."

    Very odd indeed! Hopefully the staff in store will be able to be more helpful in the morning!
  • For the record, I ordered a few days ago on their site and picked it up at the store today, got it without a hitch. I know just can't wait to get home.
