It doesn't inform my Mum when the School is closed (which it should have done on a Snow Day), but say if either me or my brother don't arrive at School for morning registration, a text is sent out.

It was introduced to stop truenting, but as far as some friends are concerned, hiding your parents phone, and making them believe they have lost it, is more than enough!
And it's also used so the school can keep a tab on how long we're out of school due to sickness.

The problem is, that you can't reply via text back to the school about the reason your child isn't at School. For my Mum who has a speaking impediment, it's extremely annoying as she can't phone up. It would be common-sense to implement this a little better.

Samantha.

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

yeah freshers week is the 22nd September.

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

Ah yes you're off until, what, end of Sept?

2008/9/2 Disqus <>

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

Not of the top of my head, I will be able to check when I am back in uni in a few weeks.

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

D'ya know what company is providing the connectivity, Ricky?

2008/9/2 Disqus <>

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

yeah i mean in one of schools at uni they are trialling cancelled lectures etc and letting students know via text the service is going really well. They are finding one big issue that a lot of students who are international and have international numbers are being charged for receiving text messages so they are hesitant to roll it out across the whole uni. If they make it opt in, I am sure it will work well!

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

Very very smart isn't it?

2008/9/2 Disqus <>

Re: Ottumwa Schools begin text messaging program : News : KTVO3

I thought this was reports like your child's test score, but having read the article its like when there is a snow day.
