Mobile Industry Review: Mr Operator: It’s a question of frustration

  • MarkW · 1 year ago
This looks to me like one of the most valuable things (for those who need it) to have come out of any blog in a long time. It's annoyed me that you've had to come out and clarify like this just because someone was whining, probably due to some other personal agenda. If I wanted to get an app in front of a MNO, I'd be ripping your hand off - you take all the good advice you can get if you're going to succeed. It'll be fascinating to see what comes out of this. Well done to both Ewan and Mr O for putting this together.

Agreed! I'm really looking forward to hearing Mr Operator's perspective. Always better to be over prepared for a pitch - It's a tough market to break into, I would take any of the advice given here with gratitude.

I have sat on the wrong end of an 'I have a great idea let's hear it' table. It took a year to get the idea together with nearly no money. It was great technology but alas I had no business plan. I din't know what one was. I left the table STILL not knowing what one was. I only worked it out about 5 years' later. Essentially I had no compelling reason by any body would spend £5 a month on my technology rather than chocolate.

If I had changed my pitch to solely answering that question and my technology demo had been 100% convincing that I was right, I would be doing something else right now.

As it happens there was (and still is) no good reason for using my technology rather than buying £5's of Cadburys a month. it remains a fabulous piece of technology though. I would have loved to have known that killer question though then I was early enough into the project to know that that is the only question that needs to be so obvious to every person in the target population on the day you make the pitch that it only takes 10 minutes to convince a grandmother that its true (not mine because she believes in me anyway).

    What is this mythical technology?

I really like this series and and tracking it for sure.

Good on you Mr O and Ewan for having the insight to take this public.

I second MarkW's comment and intent although I think justification, in general, breeds clarity. Clarity is rarely bad.

I hear rumblings of a 'start-up' virtual environment with new projects and investors in one melting pot just around the corner - the like of Mr O should feature there too..

On a final point - it may be beneficial to also give some guidelines on any 'rules of thumb' Mr O may have found over the years rather than personal opinions on mobile companies - although they will be very interesting too!
