There was nothing to prevent the SMS Provider (or anyone else for that matter) hiring a bunch of unemployed geeks to generate huge volumes of outbound SMS traffic via the service and thereby bolster profits even further.
Every successful business MUST have a workable business model if it is to survive - that means payments and revenues HAVE to come into the equation somewhere!
