Thanks for that. Looking forward to more... I agree with Mr Lane on the click test. It's foolproof!

Shame about the LED rather than Xenon flash for those of us who don't want to carry a separate camera. LEDs are just naff compared with Xenon for any dark/night shot. N97 looks great, but no Xenon = deal killer, regardless of any impact on battery (if that's an issue carrying a spare battery is nothing compared with the extra bulk and losability factor of a spare camera). And I'm saying this from experience not ideology ;-)

Heck they could have just added an infra red light for night videos (for those of us that need it)

I'm pretty sure that Batman uses this in the dark knight as part of his insane sonic imaging set up.
  • James Whatley · 11 months ago
Nah - Similar, but not quite. The phone that Lucius Fox leaves in China is the Nokia 5800.

    aka The Tube.

good so far then...and not quite the battering the n96 got ;-)
  • James Whatley · 11 months ago
Yes mate, although Nokia would have to put in some extra special effort to pull off another device as ghastly as the N96...

    Jeez..
  • ARJWright · 11 months ago
You know I don't like you now right :P
  • James Whatley · 11 months ago
    Awww that's just mean...

As much as I'm eager to know more about the upcoming N97, after watching the video I'm left wanting to know what's up with those tiles! Where is that?
  • James Whatley · 11 months ago
I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you... ;)

Sorry to have to say this again, but the latest item on the Large M4V feed is Week 50, the one about the Motorola Q-something. Is it like this just for me (aka is it an issue with Miro) ? Anyway, I shall now subscribe directly to the Vimeo feed.
  • Ben Smith · 11 months ago
Vlad, the feeds will lag a bit as the video has to be converted and uploaded manually (our kingdom for a really competent video podcast manager app!) but I will kick the people who need to be kicked to get this sorted.

Awesome stuff Mr Whatley... so? Verdict?
  • James Whatley · 11 months ago
Very good hardware wise. Keyboard impressed me, I got the knack of it almost immediately.
Wouldn't be fair to judge pre-production software... Hand on heart?

I can't wait to get my teeth into it... My N95 8GB is *such* a workhorse for me. It does *everything*.
I genuinely believe that this could be the successor that will take it to the next level.

And for the record - there really is no Nokia fanboyism in that at all. My N95 kicks ass.
The N97 can do everything the N95 can and then some.

    Bring. It. On.
  • Abul · 11 months ago
I'm hoping it lives up to expectations and more. The bare minimum for it to be even considered a success would have to be doing everything the N95 did, with seamless ease.

I'm just so happy its finally official. Since we all have to wait for its release, Im just gonna wait for the unlocked verison that is going to be released http://www.puremobile.com/Nokia/Nokia-N97-White... . My dream came true, a nokie with qwerty and touch.....don;t worry N97, we'll be together very soon.
