That does not make much sense, they stated it was a "SIM" issue, but I would think that like a cell phone, that transponder could be tied to a provider in the future. Assuming the dog isn't off with its mates and has wrapped it in tinfoil or removed the batteries.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;To get value from this (suspending all privacy/trust issues for a minute), your object of desire needs to be 1. outdoors   2. in mobile coverage   3. charged up.   4. then you actually need to know and 5. be in a position to receive the info and act on it. Chances of all 5 of these coinciding?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;N-I-C-H-E.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just how many Geotracking startups will have to burn before someone realises this sort of thing is a technical solution to a mass-market problem that just doesn't exist?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Coming soon to a VC round near you: garden Gnomes with GPS / solar-charged Gnome hats / 2G-3G antenna in the fishing rod.
