It switches to fido gsm but does not start counting your minutes!  checked the fine print and it's true... if you initiate a call on wifi, an lose your wifi mid call... your call is carried but no minutes are charged :)  this is also true for the canada wide long distance package.  You can start a long distance call from a wifi spot and then walk away and you are freeeeeeee calling on the fido network.  I know it's hard to believe, but I think this is part of reason fido has stopped promoting fido uno so agressively.
