Carphone sees x10 interest in iPhone pre-registrations

Started by Ewan · 12 months ago

If you’ve been reading Ben’s tale of woe trying to register to get a 3G iPhone from o2, earlier, then this piece of news is, as Kylie used to sing, especially for you.

  • Hmm. I'm not seeing any online order option at the CPW site. Once this is live, I hope you'll be able to buy online and pick up instore on Friday - that'd be brilliant. There's just 28 minutes from 8:02 til when I've got to bein work, 2 miles from the Carphone Warehouse store. Tight timing in the extreme... I'll try to do a Qik video of the queue outside (if there is one).
  • Spoke to soon! It's now live!
  • Sorry Martin it was just being published as I wrote!
  • CPW is miles better than O2 this morning. Just preordered a 16GB iPhone to collect in store on Friday morning. Excellent - no messing around with deliveries.
  • Oh, I spoke too soon again. Just got this email:

Thank you for ordering with www.carphonewarehouse.com.

We have now processed it through our secure systems, but are unable to despatch the item to you for security reasons. This order has now been cancelled.

If you still wish to make a purchase please call 0870 087 0870.

What? What does that even mean? The phoneline's engaged too.
  • Oh my... security reasons? Perhaps it's to do with your card or something?
  • Looks like some sort of error at their end. Waiting for someone to call me back. Whatever's caused it means I probably won't get an iPhone 3G at launch now. Grrr.
  • You shall go to the ball, Martin. Talk to me and I'll fix it.
