Mobile Industry Review: Canadian SMS ad networks…

    The biggest challenge in Canada is the CWTA (all mobile campaigns need approval through this governing body), where advertising through short codes is not acceptable. Some carriers are charging a fee if advertising is sent in an SMS.

    Olaf, are you saying that currently the CWTA does not allow a text advertisement inside a text message? If so, what do you mean that "some carriers charge a fee if advertising is sent in an SMS"? Is it a case of they won't allow it unless you pay? I have seen ads in the US at the bottom of text messages. Example from my blackberry:
    "GEMINI
    {horoscope here}
    * Ad here (wap link, phone number, reply 12345 for more, etc..)
    "

    Also, I heard that text messages sent through short codes in Canada can only be 136 characters instead of the usual 160. Is this true? If so, do you know why? Many thanks!
