It would appear to be the same in the UK. Presumably due to the in-store activation and Apple staff being inexperienced in the dark art of running credit checks and the like.

Press release from O2 I got says:

The iPhone 3G will go on sale at 8.02am in all Apple stores and at selected O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores on the high street. All remaining stores will open at standard trading times. Check with your local store or online for opening times.

Interesting, that conflicts with what I heard and the Apple website's "Where to buy" page only lists Carphone Warehouse and O2 stores!

Interesting that they've said "selected O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores"... I may have to do some checking up to make sure my local one has stock!

I read it as only 'selected' stores were opening at 8:02... the rest are normal time.
