Mobile Industry Review: Apple’s MobileMe - .Mac by any other name?

  • benjaminwright · 1 year ago
Julia: What impresses me with MobileMe is the massive volume of records being replicated on multiple devices. Redundant records of e-mail, text messages and more spawn and ever-growing treasure of evidence to search through in the event of lawsuits, divorces and all manner of criminal investigations. --Ben http://hack-igations.blogspot.com/2007/11/instant-message-retention-e-discovery.html

I can see MobileMe becoming a major component in the SMB space. The combination of power and simplicity will lead to many bypassing or forgoing Exchange and/or Blackberry solutions in favour of MobileMe.

    Very very clever Mr Jobs.......

I just wish I had an excuse to get a .mac account!

UK pricing confirmed at £59. Shame there's no per month billing, but with 20BG storage it's competitve with hosted Exchange or Zimbra. The problem is Gmail sets the expectation of zero as the price even if it is functionally limited, relatively.

You can pick up legit activation keys on ebay for about £40 if that helps. Monthly billing would definitely help or a discount for iphone buyers maybe. I am slightly surprised they didn't go for a lower price on this one to tie in with the 3G version. The problem with Apple is they always want to keep the peasants out - I should know.

I want one but I need to think of a good excuse also.

Legit activation keys? Do you mean part-used .Mac subscriptions?
  • AJ · 1 year ago
No - these are full year subscriptions. They are usually US sellers taking advantage ot the arbitrage opportunities. They dont send the box unless you ask for it - they just email the activation key.

Being ebay you need to a bit careful but it should be ok.
