I can’t tell you how effing annoying it is being stuck in a Quiet Zone on a South West Train with a nutcase 50 year old woman nattering away on her mobile.

What should one do?

For god's sake man, just lean over and clearly, steadily ask her to please hang up or go somewhere else.

she will be shocked that someone from the UK actually had the nerve to engage with a stranger on a matter of protocol/politeness.

Do it. You will feel much empowered. Next time it will feel much easier, believe me.

If that doesn't result in a satisfactory response remove the phone from her by force and drop it in the nearest drink... see what her guru has to say about that!
