I was actually working on a post about 3’s new Skypephone S2 and the handset’s integrated Facebook application when a reader, Ken, sent me this overview of their Skypephone S2 Facebook experience. Have a read…

  • No comparison to the existing web interface? I'd be interested to know if it had features that weren't currently available on most web-capable mobiles.
  • seriously, we need pictures++
  • Talked to the PR. They have none.

    I kid ye not!

  • So is this actually a proper FB app or is this just the mobile website (which I live on..)??

  • Hi All ... quick question, is it possible to unlock the Skype Phone S2? It's the lowest cost HSDPA-capable phone on the market (£70 for 1 with £10 credit, or £100 for 2). I'm trying to work out the extent to which that's subsidized pricing ('cos you can't easily unlock it).

    Next best is VOD, which has the Nokia 6124 on for £100 and it doesn't lock phones anymore, so far as i know.

    Thanks much!
  • Well, it's a BREW device and only on 3, so the ROI on someone developing an unlock to sell would be minimal compared to a Nokia. Don't expect one any time soon...

    ....and if you unlocked it for use on another network, Skype wouldn't work anyway. Probably other apps too, that need a proprietary back-end, like MSN or Facebook.

    If you just want HSPA access, why not buy a dongle?

    Q: was there ever an unlock for the original Skypephone? That was pretty cheap too.
  • Thanks. It was more curiosity -- the price is very good for the capability, even without skype. I am fully loaded with HSPA dongles and phones.

    I'd guess the only time you'd want to get it unlocked would be roaming abroad in non-3 markets.

    Are there any lower cost HSPA phones available anywhere in the world? (legit sources & major manufacturers only)

  • you can play with live skype phones in the '3' stores
    or at the Leicester Square 'Social NotWorking' event today.

  • it does not matter if its a FB website or not. What matters is what ever is useful for FB people, they will use it and appriciate a website like that which makes their life easier. haha
